The Vis was a flagship of the Yugoslav Navy from 1956 to 1991 . It was sunk off Cape Kamenjak in 2016 .

history

The Vis was built in 1956 and named after the island of the same name . The 58 m long ship displaced 680 t when fully loaded  , was powered by two marine diesel engines and was armed with a 40 mm Bofors gun and two 20 mm Oerlikon cannons . In addition to the Galeb , the Vis was also used as a state yacht for President Josip Broz Tito .

With the break-up of Yugoslavia , the Vis was decommissioned in 1991 and sold to a private person. After the ship lay unused on the Croatian peninsula of Istria for a long time , it was sunk off Cape Kamenjak, south of Pula , on May 22, 2016 .

The wreck of the Vis is to become an attraction for scuba divers . With a water depth of around 32 meters, it is easy to dive with different levels of training.
