Visar Ymeri

Visar Ymeri [ ˌviˈsaɾ ˌyˈmɛˌɾi ] (born October 11, 1973 in Pristina , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar politician. From March 1, 2015 to the end of January 2018, he was the chairman of Lëvizja Vetëvendosje! (VV), the second largest party in the parliament of the Republic of Kosovo . Albin Kurti has been party chairman since then .

Study and training

Visar Ymeri first completed a few modules in media studies, philosophy, literature and politics at City and Islington College in Islington ( London ) before studying sociology at the University of Prishtina . He then worked for about two years as a journalist at the capital city television station Kohavision , where he was also deputy editor for a time. Until 2008 he also worked for the Kosovar Pension Fund.

Political career

Ymeri's political career is closely linked to the history of the Vetëvendosje. Since the beginning of her activities, Ymeri has sympathized with this movement, which initially appeared as a citizens' and student initiative. In 2010/2011 it made it into parliament as a political party , where Ymeri was elected as a member himself with 6892 votes. His party colleague and then party chairman Albin Kurti received 58,467 votes for comparison. Over the next few years, Ymeri rose rapidly into the highest organs of the party. Immediately after his election as a member of parliament, he became chairman of the Vetëvendosje parliamentary group. In the 2014 parliamentary election , Ymeri was the MP with the second most votes (29,648) of the Vetëvendosje after Kurti (63,602).

Ymeri was parliamentary group leader until March 1, 2015, when he replaced Kurti as party leader. In the election of the party leader of the Vetëvendosje he was the only candidate and received 97.42% of the vote.

Filmography

Visar Ymeri played himself in the almost 50-minute documentary Newborn from 2011. He is also interviewed a few times in The Weight of the Chains .
