Vishnuvardhan ( Kannada : ವಿಷ್ಣುವರ್ಧನ್ ; birth name: Sampath Kumar ; born September 18, 1950 in Mysore , Karnataka ; † December 30, 2009 ibid) was an Indian actor . Along with Ambareesh and Rajkumar, he was one of the leading male actors in the Kannada film of the 1970s and 80s.

biography

Vishnuvardhan made his film debut in 1971 with a supporting role in Vamsha Vriksha by Girish Karnad and BV Karanth . In his second film, the drama Nagara Haavu (1972) by SR Puttanna Kanagal , Vishnuvardhan played the leading role alongside the actress Arathi . He played other important roles in Boothayyana Maga Ayyu (1974), the children's film Nagarhole (1977), Sahasa Simha (1982), Jeevana Chakra (1985), Malaya Marutha (1986). He frequently appeared under the direction of SV Rajendra Singh , for example as an officer in the war film Muthina Hara (1990) with Suhasini as his wife. In 1991 he had his first appearance in a Hindi film in the Ramsay Brothers film Inspector Dhanush ; he also starred in a few Tamil films , including Alaigal (1973) by CV Sridhar and Mazhalai Pattalam (1980).

Vishnuvardhan has appeared in around 200 films. He also used his popularity for public institutions and charitable activities in the film industry. He was honored with 7 Filmfare Awards South for his acting achievements and also received numerous state awards. In 2005 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University .

After the news of his death from a heart attack , riots broke out in Karnataka and security measures at his residence were increased by the police to regulate the onslaught of his fans. The Chief Minister of the State of Karnataka B. S. Yeddyurappa ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in Karnataka on the day after Vishnuvardhan's death.
