Vishram Bedekar

Vishram Bedekar (actually Vishwanath Chintaman Bedekar ; Marathi विश्राम बेडेकर , Viśrām Beḍekar ; born August 13, 1906 in Amravati , † October 30, 1998 in Pune , Maharashtra ) was an Indian author, playwright and director of Marathi and Hindi films .

Life

Bedekar grew up in Amravati. During his college years he became interested in English literature and theater. In the 1930s he went to Pune and worked as a writer for a Sangeet Natak theater group. Through this he came into contact with film and made his debut in 1934 with Krishnarjun Yuddha .

In 1938 he attended a film course in England and on his return published his first and only novel Ranangan (1939), which is an important work of modern literature in Marathi. It portrays the love between an Indian and a young English woman against the backdrop of the First World War.

Bedekar went to Prabhat Film Company in Pune and worked for V. Shantarams Shejari / Padosi in 1941 . In 1945 he directed Lakhrani , in whose production Guru Dutt was also involved. He then shot melodramas for Baburao Pendharkar . In 1951 he wrote the screenplay for Shantaram's hit film Amar Bhoopali . With Rustom Sohrab (1963) Bedekar has directed one of the first productions of the Ramsay Brothers .

As a writer, Bedekar has created numerous dramas, including Brahmakumari , Vaje Paool Apule, and Tilak Ani Agarkar . His last drama Tilak Ani Agarkar from 1980 revolves around emotional and spiritual conflicts between two friends.

Vishram Bedekar's autobiography Ek Jhaad Ani Don Pakshi was published in 1985.
