Vito Žuraj

Vito Žuraj (born May 7, 1979 in Maribor , Slovenia ) is a Slovenian composer .

Life

From 1997 to 2002 Žuraj studied composition and music theory with Marko Mihevc at the Music Academy in Ljubljana , Slovenia. He then continued his composition studies from 2001 to 2004 at the "Carl Maria von Weber" University of Music in Dresden with Jörg Herchet and Lothar Voigtländer . This was followed by postgraduate studies in composition (2004–2006) with Wolfgang Rihm and a degree in music informatics (2006–2009) with Thomas Alexander Troge, both at the Karlsruhe University of Music . From 2009-2010 Žuraj was a scholarship holder at the International Ensemble Modern Academy. From 2010 to 2012 he held a scholarship from the “ Deutsche Bank Stiftung Akademie Musiktheater heute”.

In 2012 Vito Žuraj won the “57. Composition Prize of the State Capital Stuttgart ”for his work“ Changeover ”with the 1st prize. The German Academy Rome Villa Massimo selected Žuraj as a scholarship holder for the Villa Massimo in Rome in 2014. In 2012 he received the Wolfgang Rihm Scholarship from the Hoepfner Foundation and in 2016 the Claudio Abbado Composition Prize from the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic

Vito Žuraj has also been teaching since 2007. Initially as a lecturer for instrumentation, instrumentation and Gregorian chant at the University of Music Karlsruhe, from 2014 as a lecturer for music theory at the Ljubljana Music Academy.
