Vito Carrera

Vito Carrera (* 1555 in Trapani ; † June 13, 1623 ibid), incorrectly also Carreca, was a mannerist painter in Sicily .

Life

Carrera was the son of the sculptor and engraver Andrea Carrera and his wife Giovanna. In Trapani, Carrera was trained in the workshop of Giuseppe Arnino . Commissioned by the Viceroy Philibert of Savoy (1622–24), he created four portraits for the Palazzo Reale in Palermo , which his brother Giuseppe Carrera (doc. 1608–1630) completed. Furthermore, a "visitation" for the Minorite Church in Trapani and a "Last Supper" for the refectory of the monastery dell Tisa near Trapani are ascribed to him.

Vito Carrera was Pietro Novelli's second teacher during his stay in Palermo .
