Vivi Kola is the first Swiss cola . It was brought onto the market in 1938 by Mineralquelle Eglisau AG in Eglisau and achieved a high level of awareness in Switzerland.

Carl Christian Friedrich Glenck looked for salt in Switzerland in 1821. In 1823, while drilling on the Rhine near Eglisau, at a depth of 240 meters, he came across a little rich salt deposit and thus discovered the mineral spring.

The Kurhaus, which opened at Mineralquelle in 1880, went bankrupt five years later and had to cease operations in 1891. The Kurhaus was replaced by a bottling plant for mineral water. However , the mineral water, which was first delivered to the Swiss Federal Shooting Festival in 1924 , did not sell as expected. Mineralquelle Eglisau AG, which was entered in the commercial register in 1929, therefore began producing the sweet drinks Eglisana in 1926 and with Orangina in 1935 .

In 1938 Vivi Kola was launched as cola-containing and sugared table water from the Eglisau mineral spring with the slogan “chlöpft uf” (is refreshing, invigorating). Coca-Cola , which was produced in Switzerland from 1936 onwards , was still considered a cheaper, foreign copy of the “miracle drink from Eglisau”.

After the Second World War, Vivi Kola became the Kola market leader in Switzerland in 1949. It became a sponsor of bike races like the Tour de Suisse , which it accompanied with an advertising car. Vivi Kola became popularly known as a racing beer .

In the 1950s, sales rose steadily, so that a new production facility had to be built and new sources had to be found. In addition, were Schweppes and Lipton - Ice Tea bottled in Eglisau and breweries excavation waste and Feldschlösschen got on the perch Auer company.

Vivi Kola appeared in 1960 in a new, tapered bottle shape, which brought Eglisau a design award.

A new, more efficient filling plant was opened at Eglisau train station in 1969, which practically doubled the filling capacity. In 1975 the world map subject returned on the Vivi Kola label and Kola was now written with a C.

In 1986 the production of Vivi Kola had to be stopped for corporate policy reasons and because of the competitive pressure from Coca-Cola and Pepsi . In 2003, Thurella AG took over the mineral spring from the Feldschlösschen Group, expanded the system with a high-bay warehouse for 20 million francs, and filled its Rittergold must and Obi juices here. Due to overcapacity, Thurella had to shut down in 2010.

Christian Forrer from Eglisau acquired the trademark rights in 2008 and relaunched Vivi Kola in 2010 with the slogan “Vivi Kola - the Swiss Kola since 1938”. The first bottlings were made in Eglisau, the source of Vivi Kola, by Thurella. Vivi Kola is now a fixture in most of Switzerland's beverage retailers. The brand recorded constant growth despite the stagnating sweet beverage market.
