The Biotta AG provides under its main brand Biotta finished products in the form of fruit and vegetable juices from organically grown natural products fro. GESA Gemüsesaft GmbH processes vegetables into semi-finished products for manufacturers of fruit and vegetable juices . The shares of Thurella AG are on the Bern stock exchangeBX Berne eXchange listed .

history

The company was founded in Egnach in 1900 as a fruit processing cooperative . As early as the 18th century, field fruit growing began in the area there, which earned the region the name " Most India " , which is still widely used today . The cider and fruit export cooperative thus served the local fruit producers. In 1944 she began to supply Migros .

With the takeover of Bischofszeller Obi Frucht und Saft AG including Thurella AG and their brands obi and Rittergold in 1999, the cooperative began its expansion. In the following year, the Tobi table fruit division was sold and the decision was made to concentrate on the must business. In 2002 the cooperative changed into a stock corporation and took over the name Thurella AG . In 2003 she acquired the bottling plant in Eglisau from the Feldschlösschen Group . The following year, Thurella took over Biotta AG, which specializes in organic fruit and vegetable juices . The company, which has meanwhile grown into a group, went public in 2006 and in the same year took over the German GESA, Gemüsesaft GmbH . In 2007 the group of companies employed almost 296 people and generated sales of 200.9 million Swiss francs.

In 2009 the company ran into difficulties that could only be resolved by a tough restructuring in 2010. In 2010 around 100 jobs were cut and the bottling plant in Eglisau was closed and cut. The property was sold in spring 2011. The Bischofszell cider factory was also closed that year and cider activities were concentrated at the Egnach location, where around 30,000 tonnes of cider fruit were processed in autumn 2011. The shrunken Thurella no longer produced ready-to-use apple juice drinks from this , but only semi-finished products ( fruit juice concentrates ) for apple juice and mixed drinks for bottlers / soft drink manufacturers with their own brands. The business with Biotta vegetable and fruit juices made from organically grown raw materials accounts for around two thirds of Swiss sales towards the end of 2011 and has thus become the most important business area. At this point in time, the Thurella holding company employed around 80 people in its two operating companies Biotta AG (Switzerland) and GESA Gemüsesaft GmbH (Germany).

At the beginning of 2014, the company parted with the traditional cider business and thus also with the production of semi-finished products and sold it to the Möhl cider factory based in Arbon . The properties in Egnach will remain with Thurella for the time being and will be built over.

In May 2018 the company was taken over by Orior , after all non-operational properties had previously been transferred to the spun off "Thurella Immobilien AG".

Field of activity

At the end of 2011 and after a profound upheaval, the holding company Thurella AG with its two subsidiaries is a specialist manufacturer of vegetable and fruit juices in the range of around CHF 40 million in sales targeted for 2011 . The Biotta AG, headquartered in Tägerwilen processed largely by organic farmers in the canton of Thurgau grown vegetables on the one hand and from the canton of Thurgau and St. Gallen Canton derived Most fruit on the other. The remaining active Swiss production site is Tägerwilen . When the bottling plant in Eglisau closed at the end of 2010 , Thurella discontinued its own production of apple juices and apple spritzers under the obi brand; as well as those of non-alcoholic and alcoholic apple wines under the Rittergold brand. With the sale to Möhl in 2014, the production of semi-finished fruit products ( fruit juice concentrates ) for apple juice and mixed drinks was also withdrawn .

Biotta AG

The company, founded in Tägerwilen in 1931 and taken over by Thurella AG in 2005, specializes in the production of organically grown fruit and vegetable juices . The Biotta range includes 26 organic juices that are sold in around 30 countries. Biotta is the market leader in the Swiss organic vegetable and fruit juice market. The company processes Swiss organic vegetables from largely local cultivation on the southern shore of Lake Constance.

In October 2012, Biotta AG took over Traktor Getränke AG, Hirzel . The company entered the organic smoothie market in Switzerland under the TRAKTOR brand. In May 2014, Biotta Veggies, the first fruit / vegetable smoothies on the refrigerated shelves, hit the Swiss market.

The Swiss organic pioneer Hugo Brandenberger (1917–2012) took over the vegetable growing company in 1961 and developed it into a well-known manufacturer of all-natural juices.
