Viviana Sofronitsky ( Russian Вивиана Владимировна Софроницкая , Wiwijana Wladimirowna Sofronitskaja ; * in Moscow ) is a Russian-Canadian pianist .

Life

Viviana Sofronitsky was born in Moscow as the daughter of the Russian pianist Wladimir Wladimirowitsch Sofronitski . She began studying music at the Central Music School in Moscow and received a doctorate from the Moscow Conservatory . In the Soviet Union she worked with the Ensembles Madrigal and the Chamber Music Academy under the direction of Alexei Lubimow , and at the same time performed as a solo pianist in Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Minsk and Sverdlovsk.

In 1989 she went to the United States to work at Oberlin College in Ohio. In 1990 she moved to Canada, where she continued her work with performances and recordings in Toronto and worked with various members of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra . She co-founded the concert series of the Academy Concerts in Toronto and was their first artistic director.

Viviana Sofronitsky has been a Canadian citizen since 1994.

She continued her music studies in the Netherlands and graduated in 1999 in historical performance practice in the fields of harpsichord , fortepiano and teaching early music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium The Hague .

She has lived in the Czech Republic since 2001 and is married to the fortepiano maker Paul McNulty . She mainly plays on the instruments he has built. Her repertoire in concerts and recordings ranges from Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach to Liszt .

Sofronitsky joined a. a. at the Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival and the Muziek Netwerk in the Netherlands, the Leipzig Bach Festival, the Klang & Raum Music Festival in the Irsee Monastery, the Berlin Days for Early Music and the Days of Early Music in Osnabrücker Land in Germany. She played at the Festival van Vlaanderen, the Brugge Early Music Festival and the Midis-Minimes in Belgium, the Bratislava Hammerklavier Festival in Slovakia, the Chopin Festival in Poland, the Oslo Chamber Music Festival in Norway, the Vendsyssel Festival in Denmark and the piano Folia Festival and the Printemps des Arts in France.
