KK Vixen ( Japanese 株式会社 ビ ク セ ン , Kabushiki kaisha Bikusen , English Vixen Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese manufacturer of astronomical telescopes , binoculars and accessories such as eyepieces and mounts .

Company history

In October 1949, Kōsuke Tsuchida ( 土 田 耕 助 ) founded a business for optical components. In 1954 the KK Kōyūsha ( 株式会社 光 友 社 , Kabushiki-gaisha Kōyūsha , English Koyusha Corporation Limited ) was founded in Shinjuku . In 1966, the company began producing telescopes for amateur astronomy under the name Gemini Eta ( ジ ェ ミ ニ エ ー タ ー ). August 1970 the name was then changed to KK Vixen and the company structure was redesigned over the following years. In September 1984 the export department was outsourced as Vixen Kōki Kōgyō KK ( ビ ク セ ン 光 器 工業 株式会社 , English Vixen Optical Devices Technology Co., Ltd. ), which was, however, reintegrated into the parent company in June 2002. In August 1985 the company moved to its current location in Tokorozawa .

In July 1971, the Atlas Kōgaku KK ( ア ト ラ ス 光学 株式会社 , English Atlas Optics Corporation ) was founded as a spin-off of the production site in Itabashi . In 1979 the company moved to Tokorozawa and in January 1992 the company was renamed Vixen Kaihatsu Kōgyō KK ( ビ ク セ ン 開 発 工業 株式会社 , English Vixen Development Technology Corporation ). In April 2006 this was also reintegrated into the company.

Vixen Kōgaku KK ( ビ ク セ ン 光学 株式会社 , English Vixen Optics Co., Ltd. ) was founded in Itabashi in August 1969 and moved to Tokorozawa in June 1984. Vixen Kōgaku produces binoculars, telescope accessories and similar product groups.
Vixen Marketing KK
Vixen Marketing KK ( ビ ク セ ン マ ー ケ テ ィ ン グ 株式会社 ) is used to market and sell the products online.
Vixen Europe GmbH
The European trading and service branch was established in May 2003 as the German representative of Vixen Co. Ltd. founded. Vixen Europe GmbH is responsible for the general distribution of its products in Germany , Austria , Luxembourg and other distributors in Europe. The head office is in Hilden and has its own warehouse with office and training rooms as well as its own service staff.

Origin of the company name

The following rhyme by the American poet Clement Clark Moore (1779–1863) comes from a Christmas ballad from 1822 :

More rapid than eagles his courses they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now, Dasher! Now, dancer! Now, Prancer! And, Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen! "

In this poem eight reindeer of Santa Claus are mentioned by name - one of them is called "Vixen" ( vixen ).
