Vice-county of Béziers
The vice-county of Béziers around the city of Béziers already existed at the time of Charlemagne , at that time together with Agde as the county of Béziers . It was integrated into the Margraviate of Gothien and later into the County of Toulouse .
The vice count and the bishop of Béziers shared rulership in the city since the 8th century. After the Cathars had set the tone since the 12th century , Béziers was sacked by Simon IV de Montfort on July 22, 1209 and incorporated into the Domaine royal in 1229 .
Vice Count Roger Trencavel gave up his claims to Béziers in 1247.
