from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roger II. Trencavel († 1194 ) was vice count of Béziers , Carcassonne and Albi from 1167 to 1194. He was the son of Raimund I Trencavel and his wife Saure.

Life

He succeeded his father, who was killed by the consuls of Béziers on October 15, 1167. His reign was marked by the rise of the Cathars and the attempts of the Catholic Church to combat this heresy . This dispute accumulated especially in the siege of Lavaur , which among other things also resulted in the interim excommunication of Roger.

In 1170 he married Adelheid, the daughter of Count Raimund V of Toulouse . After 13 years of marriage, the couple had their hoped-for offspring, Raimund-Roger . In the same year his sister Béatrix was with Raimund VI. married of Toulouse.

Roger and his wife were buried in a tomb at Cassan Abbey.
