Vladas Pavilonis

Vladas Pavilonis (born January 16, 1932 Pakšteliai, Kėdainiai County , † 2003 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian criminal lawyer , professor at Vilnius University and court president of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court .

education

Vladas Pavilonis came from a large farming family. 1938–1942 he attended primary school in Užkapiai. Until 1948 he attended the Progymnasium Šėta . As large farmers, the Pavilonis were threatened by exile to Siberia. In order to avoid displacement, Vladas' parents moved to the Kaišiadorys district and Vladas and his grandmother moved to Jonava . In 1950 he passed the Abitur at the Jonava Middle School .

Then Pavilonis began studying law at Vilnius University , where he was de-registered in October 1951 due to his "social origins". In 1952 he continued his law studies at the Minsk Law Institute , which was merged with the University of Belarus in 1954. In 1955, Vladas Pavilonis graduated from the Law Faculty with honors .

Legal activity

1955–1957 he was assigned a position as a lawyer in the Minsk Oblast . From 1957 he worked as a lawyer at Vilnius University, then as head of student internships.

In 1993 he became a judge at the Lithuanian Constitutional Court. 1999–2002 he exercised the function of the court president.

Teaching and Research

From 1962 to 1965, Vladas Pavilonis studied as an aspirant at the Chair of Legal Theory and Legal History at Vilnius University. He did not receive his doctorate until 1969. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Court Expertise and as the Institute's scientific secretary.

Since 1976 Pavilonis was at the Department of Criminal Law at Vilnius University as a lecturer operates. He was the dean of the law school. His teaching and research areas included criminal law and criminal procedural law. Vladas Pavilonis published over 120 scientific articles, wrote textbooks and monographs.

Vladas Pavilonis was married and had two daughters; his wife died in 1978.

Vladas Pavilonis Scholarship

In memory of the scholar's activities, an annual Vladas Pavilonis scholarship was donated.

The scholarships are awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University . The founders are the professor Vytautas Nekrošius with the lawyers Pranas Makauskas, Laimontas Gasiūnas and Gediminas Bulotas.
