Vladimír Weiss (born September 21, 1939 in Vrútky , Slovak State ; † April 23, 2018 ) was a Czechoslovak football player and coach .
Club career
Weiss started playing football at Lokomotíva Vrútky. In 1958 the defender moved to ČH Bratislava , with whom he immediately became Czechoslovak champion. In 1962, the football team of the ČH Bratislava changed completely to Inter Bratislava , so that the defender continued his career there. In 1969, after 236 first division games and six goals, Weiss moved to the then third division club Baník Prievidza . He ended his career with Trnávka.
National team
Weiss made his debut on May 17, 1964 in the Czechoslovak national team , which lost 3-2 to Yugoslavia in Prague . He then played twice for Czechoslovakia: in the 0-1 win against Portugal in Bratislava on April 25, 1965 and in the 3-1 win over Romania on September 19, 1965 in Prague.
At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , Weiss won the silver medal with the Czechoslovak team.
Coaching career
Weiss coached the teams from Trnávka, Rapid Bratislava, Slovenský Grob, Pezinok and Limbach.
Others
Weiss' son of the same name is a former soccer player and former coach of the Slovak national team. His grandson of the same name is also a professional footballer and Slovak national player.
