The Voith place is a football field in St. Poelten . Today it is approved for 8,000 spectators. The home games of the SKN St. Pölten in the first division took place on it. The name is derived from the Voith company, which is the owner of the property.

history

BSV Voith

In 1949, some footballers approached the Voith company management board with a proposal to found a company sports club . The first games of the BSV Voith were still played in Stattersdorf, but in the spring of 1950 the construction of the Voithplatz began. The reason was provided by Voith, many volunteers helped with the construction and the first championship game took place in spring, which BSV Voith won 18-1 against SC Rabenstein.

Just two seasons later, the BSV rose as a champion from the 2nd class St. Pölten Süd to the 1st class, right in the coming season with the second title in a row in the II. Landesliga West. In the 1957/58 season, he was promoted to the top division of Lower Austria, the regional league. Due to the ascent, a training area was built, the capacity increased to 3,000 places and the seats to 1,400.

In the following year the BSV rose further to the newly introduced Regionalliga Ost, where they achieved 9th place in the 1959/60 season. The regional leagues were the second highest division in Austria at the time. After the runner-up title in the following season, things went downhill in sporting terms and in the 1963/64 season the BSV Voith relegated to the national league.

VSE St. Pölten

On July 5, 1973 two of the then 13 St. Pölten clubs, namely BSV Voith and SC Furthner Schwarze Elf, merged to form the new VSE St. Pölten (Voith-Schwarze Elf St. Pölten). The new merger association was regarded as the legal successor to the Black Elf founded in 1920 and also led to its founding date. In the first season 1973/74 you got into the national league. On September 8, 1973, 1,600 spectators came to the game against Herzogenburg.

On July 31, 1982, FC Admira / Wacker played an Intertoto home game at Voithplatz. 3,500 viewers saw the first international competition game in St. Pölten, where Admira won 1-0 against the Swedish team IFK Norrköping .

From 1988 to 1994, the VSE played for six seasons in the Bundesliga , the top Austrian division. After some financial turbulence and relegation to the national league, the club was dissolved. The unofficial successor club was the SKN St. Pölten.

SKN St. Pölten

In 2007, the square was renovated for € 90,000 with the support of the city of St. Pölten. The stands, sidewalks, cabins, floodlights and toilet facilities were renewed.

On May 18, 2012, the last Bundesliga championship game took place at Voithplatz. 4,000 visitors saw not only a victory by SKN St. Pölten over Austria Lustenau (3: 1), but also a legends match between the "Voith-Platz legends" against the "Bezirkshelden" (final score 5: 2) and the last lap of honor active players, legends and youngsters of the SKN.

On July 7, 2012, the new SKN stadium, the NV Arena , was opened.
