politics

He joined the AfD in spring 2013 and ran for the AfD in the 2013 federal election as a direct candidate in the Göppingen constituency , but, like the entire AfD, missed entry into the Bundestag. In the 2017 federal election , he ran both as a direct candidate in the Göppingen federal electoral district and in 8th place on the Baden-Württemberg state list , through which he entered the 19th German Bundestag . Volker Münz is one of two spokesmen for the Göppingen district association of the AfD. Münz gave up the chairmanship of his home association Unteres Filstal in early 2018.

Münz belongs to the Christian conservative wing of the party and is the church policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group. As such, he was invited to the Catholic Day in Münster .

On the night of July 5 to 6, 2018, Münz's constituency office in Göppingen and his house in Uhingen were the target of a politically motivated paint bag attack. On the left-wing extremist Internet platform Indymedia , a letter of confession from an anti-fascist group appeared. On the evening of July 10, 2018, Münz's constituency office manager Sandro Scheer discovered missing and loosened wheel bolts on two wheels of his vehicle.

Positions

In the summer of 2019, Volker Münz spoke out against the candidacy of the Thuringian parliamentary group leader Björn Höcke as federal chairman. He feared that the polarization within the AfD would harden if the prominent representative of the Volkish wing came to the federal executive board. After all, the AfD was there to change German politics. "We do not need sharp statements, we do not need an inappropriate style either." He criticized Höcke's style at the Kyffhäuser meeting. There he had massively attacked the AfD federal executive board and urged his critics to leave the party. “He talks about unity, but he divides.” Said Münz.

Private

Volker Münz is married, has two children and lives in Uhingen . He is a parish council of the Protestant Church in Uhingen and a member of the district synod.
