from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Volkmar I. , also Folkmar , († before 961) was count in the Harzgau . He was probably a son of Count Friedrich II in the Harzgau and grandson of Count Friedrich I in the Harzgau. He was probably the ancestor of the Wettins .

Life

Not much is known about Volkmar I. In 945 he received, together with his brother Rikbert, from King Otto I. ownership rights over previously royal property in Wieskau and four places in the Slavic area at the Fuhne in the Gau Serimunt . He is generally referred to as Count in the Harzgau, but the opinion has also been expressed that his brother Rikbert inherited the Harzgau and Volkmar the Schwabengau from their father Friedrich II.

Volkmar died before 961.
