Alfred Hillebrandt
Alfred Hillebrandt (born March 15, 1853 in Groß Nädlitz , Province of Silesia , † October 18, 1927 in Deutsch-Lissa ) was a German philologist and university professor in Breslau.
Life
Hillebrandt studied philology at the Royal University of Wroclaw . In 1872 he became a member of the Corps Marcomannia Breslau . In 1875 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He completed his habilitation in 1877 and was appointed associate professor for Sanskrit in 1883 . In 1887 he came to the chair . In 1907 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . He wrote about 50 writings on ancient Indian culture and became one of the greatest Sanskritologists. He became a go. Appointed government councilor and appointed to the Prussian manor house . In 1901/02 and 1910/11 he was rector of the University of Breslau, which in 1911 was renamed the Schlesische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität. In his rector's speech on October 15, 1901, he dealt with ancient India and the culture of the East. He retired in 1921. Marcomannia made him an honorary corps boy and also took in his son Roderich.
