The Volksbank Backnang eG one of the largest cooperative banks in Baden-Württemberg . The business area extends over the northern part of the Rems-Murr district . The bank offers its members and private and corporate customers services in the areas of investment, financing, insurance and provision.

history

At the founding meeting of the Backnang credit association on June 29, 1902, 85 citizens declared their membership in writing. The first business premises were opened on August 1, 1902 at Marktstrasse 44 in Backnang. In 1912 the business premises were relocated to the former Gasthaus Krone in the former Kronenstrasse by the Aspacher Bridge. In 1936 the bank moved to the building at Schillerstraße 18.

In 1941 the credit association was renamed "Volksbank Backnang eGmbH".

The bank's first branch opened in 1961. In 1972 an assembly of representatives was introduced. The bank was given its current name Volksbank Backnang eG in 1975 . In 1985 the bank opened its first ATM.

From 1987 the Volksbank Backnang was expanded through several mergers. In 1987 Volksbank Kirchberg / Murr, 1989 Aspacher Bank, 1993 Raiffeisenbank Auenwald, 1999 Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Murr-Lauter and Raiffeisenbank in the Swabian Forest were added.

In 2002 Volksbank Backnang eG celebrated its 100th anniversary.

In 2007, the bank's total assets exceeded one billion euros for the first time.

On October 1, 2010, Jürgen Beerkircher succeeded Gerhard Zanker, who retired on December 31, 2011. The banking app for mobile devices was also available for the first time in 2010.

In 2016, the bank had more than 40,000 members for the first time.

In June 2016, the general assembly of Raiffeisenbank Oberstenfeld eG and the representative assembly of Volksbank Backnang eG resolved to merge the two banks with retroactive effect from January 1, 2016.

Jürgen Schwab was appointed to the Management Board on July 1, 2016.

Werner Schmidgall retired at the end of 2017 after almost 50 years at Volksbank Backnang. Jürgen Beerkircher took over as CEO. The board now consists of: Jürgen Beerkircher, Wolfgang Matt, Jürgen Schwab and Markus Trautwein.
