In 1869 the Freudenstadt commercial bank was founded. In 1952 the name was changed to Volksbank Freudenstadt eG.
In 1992 the Volksbank Freudenstadt eG merged with the Kreditvereinsbank in Dietersweiler and the savings and loan bank in Besenfeld. In 1981 the credit institution merged with the savings and loan bank in Unter- / Obermusbach and in 1997 with the loan bank in Wittlensweiler.
Through the merger of Volksbank Freudenstadt eG and Murgtalbank Mitteltal-Obertal eG, Volksbank eG was created in the Freudenstadt district in 2002.
- Volksbank Horb eG
Volksbank Horb was also created through mergers and amalgamations of other banks in the region. The main predecessor bank is the "Allgemeine Spar- und Vorvorgangsbank Horb", founded in 1869, which was renamed in 1911 to "Gewerbebank Horb eGmbH" and then in 1940 to "Volksbank Horb". Between 1971 and 1974, three Raiffeisen banks (Grünmettstetten, Eutingen, Nordstetten), the “Genossenschaftsbank” in Eutingen and the “Spar- und Loankasse” in Altheim merged. This was followed in 2000 by the merger with the “Empfinger Bank - Raiffeisen - eG”.
- Volksbank eG Horb-Freudenstadt
The “Volksbank eG im Kreis Freudenstadt” and the “Volksbank Horb eG” merged in 2008 to form “Volksbank Horb-Freudenstadt”. In 2009 the “Volksbank Glatten-Wittendorf eG” merged with today's Volksbank eG Horb-Freudenstadt.
