history
The first foundation stone for today's Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr was laid in 1864 with the establishment of the Duisburger Volksbank. On February 19, 1897, 28 well-known citizens of Laar founded the “Credit-Verein zu Laar eGmbH”. In 1913, the Credit Association decided to call itself "Vereinsbank eGmbH" in future. On May 1, 1955, the Vereinsbank Duisburg moved into the building at Düsseldorfer Strasse 11–13. In 1986 the merger with Duisburger Volksbank from 1864 and Volksbank Meiderich followed, and in 1997 the merger with Spar- und Kreditbank Duisburg. In August 2000 the Vereinsbank merged with the Volksbank Oberhausen-Mülheim and henceforth trades as Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr eG. Since April 2016, the headquarters of Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr has been located in Duisburg at Inner Harbor 8-10.
Relocation to the inner harbor of Duisburg
After extensive renovation work on the former alltours building in Duisburg's inner harbor, Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr moved into its new headquarters in Duisburg's inner harbor in April 2016. All internal areas as well as Volksbank Immobilien Rhein-Ruhr GmbH are located at the new location. In addition, the cooperative bank opened an office at the new location.
Awards
In 2010, 2011 and 2012, the financial magazine Focus Money and the Institute for Asset Building carried out covert tests (“mystery shopping”) at Duisburg banks. The best bank in the Duisburg test in the three years was Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr. In 2013 the Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr wins the competition in Mülheim an der Ruhr. At n-tv, the cooperative bank was the clear test winner in Duisburg. In 2012, Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr was the test winner in the Focus Money test of youth banks in Duisburg.
Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr Foundation
In 1997 the Vereinsbank Duisburg Foundation was established. The funding takes place in the business area of the Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr and is intended to improve the situation of small and medium-sized enterprises in craft, trade and commerce. The Volksbank Rhein-Ruhr Foundation is a non-legal foundation in the administration of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft .
