history
The establishment of the cooperative took place on the initiative of 28 founding members on August 17, 1861 as an advance association to Stendal eGmuH.
Due to differences of opinion, former members founded the Credit- und Sparverein eGmuH at the Stendal site in 1869, which in 1907 traded as Kreditverein zu Stendal eGmbH. In 1924, this merged with the original cooperative. The name of the cooperative was then Vereinsbank Stendal eGmbH.
From 1941 the company was named Volksbank Stendal eGmbH. In 1946 the name was changed to Bank für Handwerk und Gewerbe eGmbH. In 1949 the name was changed to Landwirtschafts- und Gewerbebank eGmbH. In 1951 the name was changed again to Bank für Handwerk und Gewerbe eGmbH. From 1970 the company was called the cooperative bank for crafts and trades, which was changed in 1974 to the cooperative bank for trades and trades of the GDR. The company has been operating under the name Volksbank Stendal eG since 1990.
