The People's Liberal Party ( Bulgarian Народнолиберална партия , VLP for short) was a liberal party in Bulgaria . It was founded in 1886 after the coup of 1886 as a split from the Liberal Party (Bulgarian Либерална Партия / Liberalna Partija, founded in 1879).

Partial newspapers were: "Swoboda" (Bulgar. Свобода, German. Freedom) and "Now wek" (Bulgarian Нов век, roughly: New Century).

history

On Russian instigation, a group of pro-Russian officers launched a coup against the Bulgarian ruler Alexander I and forced him to abdicate on August 9, 1886. He was then deported to Russia outside of the country. With the support of the Bulgarian Parliamentary President Stefan Stambolow , who opposed coups with the help of the military, Alexander I was able to return to Bulgaria and briefly return to the throne. During this time, a group around Stambolow split off from the Liberal Party, which would later represent the core of the VLP. The party organization did not take place until 1890. Until 1894, the government of Bulgaria provided them.

After the assassination of the party chairman Stefan Stambolow in 1895, Dimitar Petkow led the party. In the next period unsuccessful negotiations about a union with the Liberal Party Radoslawowisten were led, whereupon the party chairmanship in 1896 in Dimitar Grekow passed.
