State award for popular theater pieces
The state award for popular theater pieces was a prize awarded by the state of Baden-Württemberg for authors in the genre of popular theater . The triennial prize was awarded from 1978 to 2011. In 2011 the prize money totaled 12,500 euros. First prize: (5,000 euros), second prize: (3,500 euros), two third prizes (1,500 euros each) and two sponsorship prizes (500 euros each).
Tender
The prize was awarded to authors from all over the German-speaking area , whose pieces “deal with topics from customs and history and have entertainment related to their home country”. The pieces are intended to "enhance the public consciousness of the genre of popular theater and at the same time give impetus for further development". It was possible to submit pieces that they had written and adaptations that were made in the four years before the award ceremony. The pieces may have already been performed, but the terms and conditions stated that “pieces that have already prevailed on the stage do not require an additional award from the state prize”. 2011 was the last award of the prize, it was replaced in 2013 by the newly awarded state amateur theater prize "Lamathea".
