Volkwin Weigel
Volkwin Weigel (also Volcuinus Vigelius) (* around 1516 in Wetter ; † April 24, 1579 in Kassel ) was a German professor of mathematics at the Philipps University of Marburg and Hessian personal physician . He is the ancestor of the eighth generation of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .
Life
Volkwin Weigel was born around 1516 as the son of the later Lord Mayor of Wetter, Peter Weigel . He enrolled at the University of Marburg in 1527. After further studies in Leuven and Paris , he became professor of mathematics in Marburg in 1544. On April 20 In 1549 he became a doctor of medicine doctorate and was from 1553 personal physician of Landgrave Philip the Magnanimous in Kassel. Also in 1549 he married Margarethe Grebe. In 1564 he became a citizen of the city of Kassel. After the death of Philip the Magnanimous, he became the personal physician of Landgrave Wilhelm IV from May 1567 .
