The DDR volleyball championship of the men was in 1982 held for the 31st time. The SC Leipzig , last GDR champion in 1976 , won their 20th championship title, ahead of the TSC Berlin , which came back to medal honors after ten years. The championship began at the end of December 1981.

The four club teams ( SC Dynamo Berlin , SC Traktor Schwerin , SC Leipzig and TSC Berlin ) determined the champions in four tournaments. In the tournaments everyone played against everyone.
