Volmetal Bridge

The Volmetalbrücke is a 1740 m long elevated road on the northeastern edge of Eilpe , a district of Hagen .

The bridge is located in the course of the Volmetalstrasse, a section of the federal highway 54 and spans among other things the Volme , the Volmetalbahn as well as the state roads 528 and 693 and other city roads. The bridge has mostly two lanes, in the middle section there are four lanes.

The structure consists of a superstructure. The bridge was built in sections from 1971 to 1977, according to the funds made available. It was originally planned as part of an urban motorway.

construction

The structure is a girder bridge made of prestressed concrete with 41 openings. The bridge superstructure has a box girder cross-section with a uniform construction height of 2.42 m and slightly sloping webs. It is divided in the longitudinal direction into six continuous beam sections , each separated by expansion joints . As a rule, the superstructure is supported by pillars arranged in the middle, which have a solid hexagonal cross-section and have a flat foundation .

The first, northern bridge section has seven openings and a length of 285.3 m. The spans in the western end field are 25.3 m, followed by four fields with 43 m and two fields with 44 m length. The box girder cross-section has one cell and a deck slab width of 10.5 m.

The second bridge section again has seven openings and a length of 308 m with uniform spans of 44 m. Due to a later connection option, this bridge segment initially has a five-cell bridge cross-section with a width of 31.8 m, which merges into a three-cell cross-section with a width of 23.0 m in the four-lane part of the road.

The next bridge section has eight openings and a length of 352 m with uniform spans of 44 m. The box girder has three cells and a slab width of 23 m.

The fourth bridge section again has seven openings and a length of 308 m with uniform spans of 44 m. The box girder cross-section is a maximum of 33.2 m wide in front of the side entry and exit ramps. The eastern access ramp bridge is 124.8 m long, the western departure ramp 258.8 m. The rest of the superstructure of the main bridge has a two-cell cross-section with a width of 15.0 m.

The fifth bridge section has nine openings and apart from the last field with a 36 m span, spans of 44 m and thus a length of 388 m. The box girder cross-section has two cells and a deck slab width of 15 m.

The last, 99 m long bridge section consists of three fields with a uniform 33 m span. There is a T-beam cross-section here , the width of which increases from 19 m to 24 m due to a downhill ramp. The ramp bridge has a length of 253.1 m.

Construction work

The first three bridge segments, with the exception of the section with the bridge widening, were constructed with a feed scaffold , the remaining sections, including the ramp bridges, with a movable falsework .
