Vonda Shepard
Vonda Shepard (born July 7, 1963 in New York City , New York ) is an American singer-songwriter and actress . She became known to a wide audience through her musical contributions and roles in the television series Ally McBeal .
life and career
Vonda Shepard grew up in California . Her father Richmond Shepard was also an actor. She has three sisters.
The first sponsor in Shepard's career was her father, who raised the financial means for her piano and guitar training as well as for singing lessons. She wrote her first own songs when she was a teenager, and when she was 14 she performed in clubs in Los Angeles . She sang in the background choir with Al Jarreau , Jackson Browne and Rickie Lee Jones . Her first single in the early 1980s was a duet with Dan Hill and was called Can't we try . In 1987 her first solo album Vonda Shepard was released , which received good reviews but did not sell particularly well. That was also the case with their second album The Radical Light , which contained the studio version of their later hit Searchin 'my soul , so that their record company dropped them. For the production of her third record It's Good Eve (1996), she had to borrow money and tour the clubs of Los Angeles.
Shepard brought the soundtrack for the then new series Ally McBeal , which soon achieved cult status, the breakthrough in the late 1990s. Searchin 'my soul became the theme song. She also had regular guest appearances on the series. Sony Music bought the rights to the first soundtrack album for $ 2 million; she got platinum for it. Another Ally McBeal album and two compilations with Ally titles were later released. After Ally McBeal's ratings dropped below the five million mark in the US and the show was discontinued, she began a period of no series support.
Shepard has been married to the US music producer Mitchell Froom since 2004 and has a son with him (* 2006).
