The foothills finial ( Polygala alpestris ) is a kind from the family of polygalaceae (Polygalaceae).

features

The pre-alpine finial is an evergreen, perennial, herbaceous hemicryptophyte or chamaephyte that reaches heights of growth of 5 to 15 centimeters. The species forms a Pleiokorm root . The inflorescence is a dense, 2 to 3.5 centimeter long grape surrounded by the greatly enlarged upper stem leaves . The flowers are deep blue. The crown is 3.8 to 6 millimeters long. The calyx lobes are elliptical to obverse-shaped, 3.5 to 5.5 millimeters long and 2.0 to 3.2 millimeters wide. Your lateral nerves are not very branched and rarely have a connection to the median nerve.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

distribution

The foothills of the Alps grows on fresh stone lawns and short-grass mats in the subalpine to alpine level. In Germany the species is found scattered in the Alps in Bavaria. In Austria it is common in the western Alps, otherwise scattered or rare. It is missing in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises to an altitude of 2100 meters.

It is a character species of the order of the alpine-subalpine blue grass grass (Seslerietalia variae) and the association of the grass grass (Nardion strictae).
