Administrative division

After Thessaly was annexed to Greece, the village of Tsiampaslar ( Τσιαμπασλάρ ) initially belonged to the Trikkala prefecture. Due to its central location in Thessaly and changes in the layout of the administrative units, it changed ownership several times between the prefectures of Trikkala and Karditsa. The renaming in Vounena took place in 1940, the establishment as a rural community ( Κοινότητα Βουναίνων Kinótita Vounénon ) in 1947 and the recognition of Ano Vounena as a settlement of the rural community in 1961. Vounena finally came in 1974 to what was then the Prefecture of Larisa . With the municipal reform in 1997, Vounena was merged with seven other rural municipalities to form the municipality of Krannonas . In the course of the administrative reform in 2010, this was incorporated into the newly created municipality of Kileler .

Attractions

A little away from the monastery of Agios Nikolaos o Neos ( Άγιος Νικόλαος ο Νέος ) there is a small chapel with a well and a tree stump, it marks the exact place of the martyrdom of Saint Nikolaos. Here he was tortured and executed. Every May 9th, the anniversary of the death of St. Nicholas, a small miracle happens: some trees begin to secrete a red liquid that looks like blood. The locals explain this event with the shed blood of St. Nicholas, who gave his life for the Christian faith.
