Voyage à travers l'impossible (Journey through the impossible) is a play by the French authors Jules Verne and Adolphe d'Ennery that has not yet been fully translated into German . The music was written by Oscar de Lagoanère . The first performance took place on November 25, 1882 in the Parisian Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin . Between 1882 and 1883 Voyage à travers l'impossible was performed 97 times. In 1979 the manuscript of the play, which was believed to be lost, reappeared and was published as a book by Jean-Jacques Pauvert in 1981 . In Voyage à travers l'impossible , various motifs from Verne's Voyages extraordinaires are taken up.

The German premiere took place under the title Reise ins Impossible on December 6, 2014 in the Frankfurt cellar theater . This is the only German stage adaptation to date.

The piece consists of a conglomerate of components from various novels and the heroes of Jules Verne's novels . Georges Hatteras, who is the son of the insane Captain Hatteras , lives in a small town in Denmark . The famous scientist Dr. Ox moves him to continue his father's cause. Dr. Ox acts similarly to Mephisto in Goethe's Faust . In their constant search for something new, the actors encounter various other characters from Verne's novels. In Act 1, The Center of the Earth, they meet Professor Otto Lidenbrock from Hamburg . Through a mountain peak they get into the interior of the earth , where they are surrounded by fantastic subterranean vegetation. In Act 2 At the Bottom of the Sea , they meet Captain Nemo and visit the sunken city of Atlantis . After some political turmoil, travelers return to the mainland. There they meet the gun club from Baltimore . With the help of the cannon club specialists, the travelers can reach the planet Altor with one projectile. In the 3rd act The Planet Altor they meet Ardan and the inhabitants of the planet Altor. Because the people of Altor, led by Hatteras, wanted to divert the oceans into the interior of the planet in order to make the planet fertile, there is a huge explosion. All the protagonists want to dissuade the young Georges Hatteras from his megalomania. Because, influenced by Dr. Ox, set in his head to want to go further and further. Suddenly the travelers are back at the starting point of their journey in Andernak Castle in Denmark.
