The Vršac Mountains ( Serbian - Cyrillic Вршачке планине , Romanian Munţii varset , German Werschetzer Mountains ), often referred to as Vršački breg (Serbian Cyrillic Вршачки брег, Romanian Dealurile Vârşeţului , German hills of Werschetz ) denotes a wooded are Mittelgebirgszug east of Vrsac in Serbia on the border with Romania . They rise from the middle of the Pannonian Plain in the southwestern part of the Banat and extend over a length of 19 kilometers in an east-west direction. Their maximum width is 8 kilometers. They belong to the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and are part of the Banat Mountains .

The highest point of the mountains and the entire province of Vojvodina is the Gudurički vrh ( Kudritzer head ) at 641  m above sea level .

Other well-known peaks of the Vršačke planine are the Lisičija glava ( fox's head , 590  m ), the Đakov vrh ( Paulischer Berg , 449  m ) and the Vršačka kula ( castle hill , 399  m ). The northern slope of the almost completely forested mountains is steep, while the southern slope flattens out towards the foothills. The Vršac vineyards and the historically significant Mesić Monastery are located on these slopes .

The Vršačke planine are, like the Fruška Gora , an island mountain range . They once formed an island in the Pannonian Sea .
