Vtech Holdings (originally V ideo Tech nology Ltd.) is a computer company based in Hamilton , Bermuda , and operational headquarters in Hong Kong . VTech makes cordless phones and related accessories, simple computer systems and electronic educational toys for children. VTech is the best-known provider of educational computers for children.
In November 2015, the Vtech customer database was hacked by strangers and almost 5 million customer data was stolen and at least partially published on the Internet.
history
The company was founded in 1976.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, VTech also produced home computers , including a. compatible IBM PCs and the Laser 128 were included. The Laser 128 was the only fully legal clone of the Apple IIc computer. Apple Computer had tried to ban VTech legal action the production of the laser 128, but since the device with the reverse engineering was developed process, without the copyright infringing Apple, it could be resold.
VTech manufactured home computers up to the appearance of the Intel 80486 processor and sold them under the brand names VTech , Laser and Leading Technology .
In 2010, VTech first launched an e-book reader - the V.Reader - specially designed for children of preschool and elementary school age . VTech produces the DECT CAT-iq 2.0 telephone handsets of the "Speedphone" type for Deutsche Telekom. In March 2011, VTech had around 32,300 employees worldwide.

Data theft
According to its own information, there was "unauthorized access" to Vtech customer data on November 14, 2015. A total of 4.8 million accounts from parents and 6.3 million profiles from children are affected, several hundred thousand of them in Germany. The company did not comment on reports that children's photos were also accessed. Parts of the customer data were published on the Internet.
