Vulcaniella caucasica is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe splendor butterfly family (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 8 to 10 millimeters. The head is pale ocher. Thorax and tegulae have a dark brown sheen, tinted gold and lined with white at the back. The forewings shine dark brown and glitter golden. The ligament of the basal region and the spots are arranged as in Vulcaniella pomposella . They are raised and dark gold in color. The first and second costal spots are each preceded by a small white spot and the third costal spot is preceded by a large white spot. The first three segments of the abdomen are light gray, the remaining segments are dark gray.

In the male, the right brachium is greatly dilated distally . The apex is trimmed and has a slightly concave outer edge. The left brachium has a rectangular apex. The blades are parallel-walled. The right valvella is slightly shorter than the distal part of the aedeagus . It is broad at the base and provided with a dorsal bulbous bulge. It tapers towards the apex. The left valvella is small and very narrow. The aedeagus is very slender, the distal part gradually tapers.

In females, the 8th segment narrows distally. The anterior vaginal plate has a concave posterior edge, the anterior edge is convex . The sclerotization on the posterior margin of the 7th sternite is wedge-shaped and has two lateral, inwardly curved ridges. The ductus bursae is about half as long as the corpus bursae . The aedeagus is very wrinkled, the signa are large and flat.

Vulcaniella caucasica is common in Asia Minor and in the Caucasus in Armenia and Azerbaijan .

biology

The biology of the species is unknown. Butterflies were collected in June and July.
