As vaginitis any acute or chronic is inflammation referred to the vulva and vagina concerns in common, and most of itching or burning in this area and a vaginal discharge is accompanied.
The following forms occur in humans:
- Vulvovaginitis Candidomycetica , a form of candidiasis , one by a yeast fungus of the genus Candida caused infectious disease , in which about 80-90% of the cases caused by the fungus Candida albicans occurs, otherwise mostly by Candida glabrata or Candida krusei , and in lighter itself forms often only noticeable with burning or itching in the area of the vagina. Other colonies with fungi are summarized under the term vulvovaginitis mycotica . If only the vagina is affected by the disease, this is known as vaginal mycosis (vaginal fungal infection) (if it is explicitly restricted to pathogens of the genus Candida, vaginal candidiasis or vaginal candidiasis).
- Gonococcal vulvovaginitis when the mucous membranes are colonized by gonococci , which usually affects young girls and older women and occurs only in rare cases during pregnancy.
- Vulvovaginitis herpetic infections with genital herpes - virus
- Vulvovaginitis infantum as an inflammation usually caused by bacteria , which occurs in girls before puberty and is favored by the lack of estrogenic effects
- Diabetic vulvovaginitis , which occurs in diabetes
- Vulvovaginitis neonatorum , a disease of newborn girls, which is probably caused by the spread of germs from the anal region during the birth process .
A special form of vaginitis is the misnamed aminocolpitis called bacterial vaginosis due, an atypical colonization of the vagina with anaerobes , here especially Gardnerella vaginalis , with their typical "fishy smell" and a low-viscosity, slimy whitish-gray discharge. Like gonorrhea and genital herpes infections, it is one of the sexually transmitted diseases and can also manifest itself with itching and irritation of the external genitals .
