The Vystrel Mountain ( Russian Гора Вызтрел Gora Wystrel , German “Schussberg” ) is a 1995 m high and partly snow-covered mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . At the southern end of the Lomonossow Mountains, it rises 1.5 km south of Mount Rukhin .
The mountain was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Further mapping was carried out using aerial photographs and measurements taken by the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). Soviet scientists re-mapped and named between 1960 and 1961. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the Russian designation in 1970 in a partial translation into English.
