Vytautas Basys
Vytautas Basys (born November 2, 1944 in Akmenė ) is a Lithuanian doctor and politician .
Life
His father died after the deportation in the Vorkuta camp in Siberia . Vytautas graduated from Akmenė Evening Middle School and then worked in the registry at the city hospital. From 1961 to 1967 he completed his medical studies at the Medicinos institutas in Kaunas and in 1989 he received his doctorate in medicine. From 1967 he worked as a doctor in Druskininkai . From 1972 he taught at the Vilniaus universitetas (VU) and from 1991 he headed the neonatology clinic of the VU. In 1990 he was appointed professor . From 1996 he was a member of the Lietuvos mokslų akademija . From 1998 to 1999 he worked as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Health of Lithuania . From 2002 to 2004 he headed the Valstybinės vaistų kontrolės tarnyba institution . From 2004 he was general director of the private medical center "Northway medicinos centrai".
