Wálter Machado da Silva , better known as Silva Batuta (in Brazil ) or as Machado da Silva (in Argentina ), (born January 2, 1940 in São Paulo ) is a former Brazilian soccer player.
Career
Walter Machado da Silva began his career in 1955 at the age of 15 with São Paulo FC and was loaned to Batatais-SP in 1958 . After half a year it was sold to Botafogo FR . He was under contract there for two years.
In 1965 he got a contract with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and served as a replacement for the former player Gérson . In its first season, the club won the State Championship of Rio de Janeiro ; da Silva was the club's top scorer. In 1966 it was bought by FC Barcelona for $ 160,000 . During these years no foreigners were allowed to play league games, so he only took part in friendly games. Walter returned to Brazil and was there under contract for FC Santos , but he resigned after one season.
In 1967 he returned to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and completed 53 league games there in three years. In his first game after returning when he played against Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte at the Estádio do Maracanã , he scored three goals. In 1969 he moved to the Argentine Racing Club (Avellaneda) . He made his debut against Estudiantes de La Plata . In 1975 he ended his career.
