Wladyslaw Eiger

Władysław Eiger (born February 7, 1907 in Łódź , Poland ; † May 11, 1991 in Pensacola , United States ) was a Polish pianist , arranger , composer and orchestra leader of Jewish descent in the field of dance and light music .

Life

Eiger studied composition at the Warsaw Conservatory and the École Normale de Musique de Paris . In Poland he was signed by the record company “Syrena-Record” towards the end of 1929. There he arranged for the dance orchestras Henryk Gold and later Henryk Wars Schlagerlieder. In 1931/32 he worked briefly as the house orchestra leader of the record company "Lonora-Electro" in Warsaw , then between 1932 and 1933 as the director of the house orchestra of the Polish Lindström Society, with the companies "Odeon" and "Parlophon". At Lindström he was replaced in 1933 by the radio bandmaster and violinist Arkadi Flato, who had emigrated from Berlin . In addition to his work for the record, Eiger was also the musical director of the “Wesoły Wieczór” and “8.15” theaters in Warsaw in the early 1930s and wrote revues. He also composed Schlager and from 1934 was increasingly used in Polish films. Initially primarily as an arranger (in 1934 in the film “Śluby ułańskie”), later also as a composer. In 1938 he went to France , where he worked as a pianist. In 1942 he managed to emigrate to the United States, where he was able to gain a foothold as a film composer.
