The WAKO-PRO is the International Kickboxing - Martial Arts Association of Kickboxing - professionals of WAKO organized. The President of WAKO-PRO Germany is Jürgen Schorn from Ebern . Associations and clubs from 30 countries are now organized in WAKO-PRO.

founding

During the WAKO European Championships in Spain in 1991, the responsible officials of the WAKO thought about how they could prevent their kickboxing professionals from migrating to other associations. The WAKO was originally founded only for amateurs. They therefore decided to found their own professional kickboxing world association. Today more than 30 countries from all parts of the world have come together in WAKO-PRO. The main aim was to standardize the disciplines, protective equipment and weight classes for all professionals. The WAKO-PRO is now fighting in six disciplines. These are full contact, light contact, pointfighting (formerly semi-contact), low kick, Thai boxing and K-1 rules.

Disciplines

Semicontact

The semicontact is similar to pointfighting. Every hit is displayed immediately. The fight is interrupted for this. The semicontact corresponds to Olympic fencing. Only light and controlled hits are allowed. It depends on the speed of the hits.

Light contact

The light contact is the competition in which points should be scored with light and precise hits. It is similar to sparring , in which the aim is not to beat up the opponent, but to train and improve your own skills. The execution of nice and clean hits is wanted here.

Full contact

The full contact fight is the supreme discipline in kickboxing. Here the opponent may be knocked out. The full use of the rule-compliant techniques is permitted and desired in competition. It can be won by points or by knock-out . This depends on stamina, coordination and physical hardness. It can be hit with hands and feet. The fighting time is 12 rounds for World Cup fights, 10 rounds for European Championship fights, and seven rounds for German championships .

Protective equipment and rules

The rules of the WAKO-PRO stipulate mandatory protective equipment to avoid serious injuries to the fighters. Men have to wear groin protectors in competition, women have chest protectors with hard shells. In semi-contact, head protection must be fought, in light contact arrangements can be made about head protection (both or neither). Head protection is not allowed in full contact. The mouthguard, the shin guard and the foot guard must be approved by WAKO-PRO. The competition gloves are provided by the organizer. They are brand new and from the same manufacturer. In the absence of protective equipment, the fighter will be disqualified. The hit areas for semi-contact are the head and the upper body. The legs may only be swept. With full contact, everything can be hit with fists and legs. Low blows are not allowed. Fighters who own a title must defend it once a year. But this rule is handled loosely. The fight time is two minutes per round with a one-minute break. In all fights, the referees make sure that leg and arm techniques are used equally.
