The WFL Millturn Technologies GmbH & Co. KG (formerly part of Voestalpine Steinel ) is a company for the production of complete processing machinery for cutting production of components. The company focuses exclusively on the manufacture of multifunctional turning-drilling-milling centers. Millturns are used today in many high-tech companies for the manufacture of complex components.
history
In 1948, lathes were developed and produced for the first time by the voestalpine Group. More than 50,000 machines had been sold by 1950, and so production exceeded actual use for the company's own steelworks. At the beginning of the 1980s, a complex workpiece was machined in one clamping for the first time using a lathe with milling head and full-fledged B-axis. This ultimately resulted in the first complete processing machine with the brand name “Millturn”. After the privatization of the machine tool production in 1993 and the renaming to "WFL Millturn Technologies", the company concentrated on the development of further machine tools and the area of complete machining. WFL Millturn Technologies is a subsidiary of Autania AG .
Products
Millturn complete processing machines
The brand name “Millturn” is made up of the two terms “Milling” ( milling ) and “Turning” ( turning ). With turning lengths from 1,000 to 14,000 mm and turning diameters from 520 to 2000 mm, a wide range of workpieces can be completely machined.

software
CrashGuard & CrashGuard Studio
The patented collision avoidance system CrashGuard is a real-time software extension of the CNC control, which prevents collisions between machine components in automatic or manual operation with the help of an internal 3D model of the machine. The CrashGuard Studio is the associated software for testing and optimizing new or modified CNC programs. By optimizing the workflow and correcting errors at an early stage, the risk of collisions and rejects is reduced.
Branches
WFL Millturn Technologies is headquartered in Linz , Austria . The German sales office is located in Sinsheim in Baden-Württemberg . Further branches are in China , Russia and the USA .
Technologies
Rotate
A tool is used for different angular positions and by turning the tool cutting edge for left or right machining - thus fewer turning tools are required.
- B-axis turning
Drill
The machining takes place with an internal coolant supply axially, radially and in all angular positions to the axis of rotation. Switching between different cutting machines is avoided.
Milling
The machining of surfaces and grooves is possible in all angular positions. With the interpolation of up to 5 axes, any geometric shape can be processed.
- Hobbing
- Cam milling
- Crank pin milling
- 5-axis milling
- Circular milling
- Turn milling
Other technologies
- In-process measurement
- Grinding and finishing
- Interior machining
- Bump
- Special heads
