WHH GT 18
GAA GT 18 (Type Berlin) is the name for a standard residential skyscraper , designed by the architect collectively Helmut Stingl and Joachim Seifert 1969-1971 in large panel construction for housing construction combine was developed in Berlin.
The abbreviation WHH denotes the type of high-rise residential building, the GT stands for the large panel construction used, and 18 for the number of storeys . The building is designed as a free-standing point high-rise or, under the designation WHH GT 18/21, as a double high-rise with 21 floors and a load rating of 6.3 t. Depending on the version, it contains 136 or 296 apartments . It is one of the largest model buildings in the GDR .
The first building of this model was erected in 1971 on Holzmarktstrasse in East Berlin . When the Fischerinsel was rebuilt , modified types of this series with 20 storeys were built. From 1972 they were used in almost all of East Berlin's large estates . As a contrast to the mostly 11-storey development with buildings from the WBS 70 , the high-rise should set a dominant urban development. It was built at important junctions or in the vicinity of means of transport, such as underground or S-Bahn stations.
