Please note the note on the applicable legal version.

The German Washing and Cleaning Agents Act (WRMG) , referred to in the long title as the “Law on the Environmental Compatibility of Detergents and Cleaning Agents”, regulates the environmentally compatible composition of washing and cleaning agents on the German market.

In particular, the biodegradability of the surfactants contained in detergents and cleaning agents and the amounts of phosphates they contain are important aspects. In addition to the ban on certain ingredients, manufacturers are also obliged to label or publish the ingredients used, as well as information on the water hardness range. A forerunner of the WRMG was the "Law on detergents in washing and cleaning agents" of September 5, 1961 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 1653).

In 2010, the cleaning agent Por Çöz was temporarily banned on the basis of the law , as it poses a serious health hazard with 20% nitric acid . This is the first time that this option has been used.
