Carl Rühlemann

Carl Rühlemann (born March 31, 1864 in Gatterstädt ; † August 28, 1947 in Lutherstadt Eisleben ) was a German teacher, regional historian and archivist and author of more than 130 publications.

Life

After attending elementary school in Gatterstädt, Rühlemann received his training at the teachers 'seminar in Eisleben and was employed as a teacher at the I. Citizens' School in Eisleben. In 1916 he became vice rector and remained so until his retirement in 1924. In 1894 Rühlemann was a member of the local history association. Antiquities of the county of Mansfeld became and worked closely with the long-time chairman of the association, Hermann Großesler , (1840-1910). In 1913, on the initiative of the association, a regional history museum was opened in Eisleben, and Rühlemann was the honorary director until his death. The collections of this museum formed the basis for the museum in Martin Luther's birthplace , which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

Honors

In Eisleben, the Carl-Rühlemann-Platz was named in honor of Rühlemann . On the occasion of his 80th birthday he was given honorary citizenship of the city of Eisleben.
