Doppelzeptergau

The Doppelzeptergau ( ancient Egyptian Wabui ) was the 19th Upper Egyptian Gau . It extended south of Beni Suef to not far south of Oxyrhynchos on the west side of the Nile and had a length of about 45.7 kilometers.

A first mention as a Gau can be found in the Old Kingdom at Sahure . In the Gauliste of the Sesostris kiosk , the cities Wenesi and Iaq, which cannot be localized, are named as main places. It is no longer run as an independent district in the New Kingdom . In the Saïten period it reappears with the capital Oxyrhynchos and is therefore called Oxyrhynchites in Greco-Roman times .
