Vigilance well
The Vigilance Fountain is a listed fountain ( list entry ) on Schlesingerplatz in Vienna's 8th district, Josefstadt .
history
The vigilance well with the original location Alser Straße / Skodagasse was built in 1779 at the expense of the Lower Austrian provincial government by Johann Martin Fischer . In 1937 the fountain was moved to Schlesingerplatz in front of the local district office for the 8th district.
The vigilance fountain has been illuminated in a particularly attractive way since 2004.
presentation
A metal female figure as the goddess of vigilance with an oil lamp as a symbol for vigilance in the right and a scroll in the left hand as well as a crane as a symbol for the care at her feet on a free-standing stone pillar with lion heads as gargoyles and two semicircular fountain bowls on the Front and back represent vigilance.
