history
From the ending “-hofen” one can conclude that the place was originally named after the “ courtyards of the Wacho ”. This type of naming suggests that the place originated around the 7th century. Wagenhofen was first mentioned in a document in 1085 when Count Notpertus transferred the Monasterium Hegibach ( Habach Abbey ) to the altar of St. Mary in Augsburg , where the witness Alberich de Wagenhove was named.
The chapel in the center of the village was built in 1844 and placed under the patronage of Franz von Assisis . It has a bronze bell weighing around 15 kilograms with the inscription “ 1893 cast in Augsburg ”, which was saved from melting down during the two world wars due to its small size.
