history
overview
Prehistoric, Celtic and Roman finds show that the area of the upper Glonn Valley has always been a cultural landscape.
The Unterumbach district was mentioned as early as 800. In the early Middle Ages, Pfaffenhofen and Egenburg were considered the "principalities in the Glonntal". The "Kapitel an der Glonn", a clerical community, shaped the face and history of the place for centuries. In 1632 the place was devastated by the Swedes during the Thirty Years War .
In 1771 the place came to St. Afra in Augsburg. Four churches, some of which are still clearly characterized by Gothic buildings, which all received a successful baroque interior in the 18th century, still define the face of the villages today.
Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn, like the neighboring towns, belonged to the Munich Rent Office and the Friedberg District Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Until the district reform in 1972 Pfaffenhofen ad Glonn belonged to the administrative district of Swabia .
