Elections in Congo-Kinshasa 1965
The general elections in Congo-Kinshasa in 1965 were between 18 March and 30 April 1965 held that the promulgation followed a new constitution by the referendum was approved in the previous year.
223 political parties ran for the election of 167 seats in the Chamber of Deputies .
The elections were won by parties affiliated with the Congolese National Convention . They were led by Moïse Tschombé and together they won 80 seats. After the elections, the results were questioned by various parties. The Léopoldville Court of Appeal accepted six of them, leading to new elections in Kivu Central , Goma - Rutshuru , Cuvette Centrale , Fizi , Kwilu and Maniema , which were held between August 8 and 22, 1965.
Despite Chombe's party winning the election, President Joseph Kasa-Vubu appointed Évariste Kimba of the Congolese Democratic Front as prime minister, a situation that ultimately led Joseph Mobutu to launch the military coup in November.
