The newspaper publisher Waiblingen (ZVW) is the editor of four local newspapers in Rems-Murr-Kreis , of the east to the city of Stuttgart adjoins ( Waiblingen district newspaper, Schorndorfer messages Winnender newspaper and Welzheimer newspaper ). In addition, the publishing house in Waiblingen , Winnenden , Schorndorf and Backnang also publishes a free weekly newspaper with various partial editions.

The history of the four daily newspapers goes back to the 19th century. On November 17, 1839, the first edition of the “ Intelligence Gazette for the Upper District of Waiblingen and the Surrounding Area” was published “with the most gracious approval of the royal Württemberg ”. Almost six years later, on January 2, 1845, the Welzheimer Zeitung was printed for the first time. In August 1848 a newspaper appeared in Schorndorf, which was finally followed less than a year later by the Winnender newspaper.

In 1971 the four previously independent publishers merged to form the Waiblingen newspaper publisher. Today 35 members of the editorial team produce the local parts and a common district part at four locations. The newspaper publisher Waiblingen obtains the national content as a shell partner from the Stuttgarter Nachrichten .

The newspaper publisher Waiblingen received the German Local Journalist Prize 2006. This prize is awarded annually by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . The jury was particularly impressed by the concept of the extra pages, which are used to set specific editorial focuses. In 2008 the publisher received this award in the editorial marketing category. In 2009 the newspaper publisher Waiblingen was awarded a special prize from the German Local Journalist Prize for "journalistic sense of responsibility" in connection with reporting on the Winnenden rampage on March 11, 2009.

The owners of the publishing house are GeVi Beteiligungen GmbH Medien KG (Waiblingen) with 41%, ZVD Mediengesellschaft mbH (Göppingen) with 36% and the local newspaper publishing and printing company Kreh GmbH & Co KG with 16%, as well as six members of the Bauer and families Wormstedt. The three named companies also hold shares in Südwestdeutsche Medien Holding (SWMH) as members of the Württemberg publishers group .

Like most German newspapers, the publisher's four daily newspapers ( Waiblinger Kreiszeitung , Schorndorfer Nachrichten , Winnender Zeitung and Welzheimer Zeitung ) have lost circulation in recent years . The circulation sold has decreased by an average of 1.6% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 2.4%. It is currently 37,271 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 88.9 percent.

Listed individually, the sold circulation of the Waiblinger Kreiszeitung is 11,873 copies, the Schorndorfer Nachrichten 11,928 copies, the Winnender Zeitung 6,161 copies and the Welzheimer Zeitung 2531 copies.

In addition, the publisher publishes a free paper on Thursdays with several partial editions and a total circulation of around 173,000 copies in Waiblingen , Winnenden , Schorndorf and Backnang .
